Mission

The Mission of Celebrating the African Spirit is to acknowledge, articulate, research and commemorate the lives of enslaved Africans and their descendants in Poughkeepsie, NY and the surrounding areas. We strive to make this hidden part of American history known to everyone to counter “the pervasiveness of racism and inequality in America today.
