PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
2003 to present
Drake Creative LLC, Millbrook, NY
Principal and Graphic Designer
Own and operate a design firm that listens to clients and uses what they have to say to create designs that broadcast their message. Inspired by reading creative concepts and by using photos, drawings and type to make visual communication that results in logos, signs, websites, publications, brochures billboards, promotional products, theatrical backdrops and anything else that needs a visual identity.
Highlighted Projects:
VDay, I am an Emotional Creature: Graphically-altered visual environment. Turned titles from Eve Ensler's most recent book, I am an Emotional Creature, into projected graphics that turned the Urban Zen Center into a virtual den of teenage girls' emotions. Used handwritten fonts and drawn images to relay the feelings and emotions behind each performer's story. These images were projected onto the stage backdrop creating a visual communication for each performance piece. Got in-touch with my inner teenager on this one and have not let it go.
Blue Flower Arts: Transformation from seedling to fields of flowers through careful cultivation of design. Over the past five years the design for this literary speakers' agent has grown from a seedling to full bloom, creating an identity around the beauty of the spoken word visually represented in her artist catalog, website, targeted topic specific direct mail brochures, promotional giveaways, business cards and letterhead. Developed a guerilla marketing strategy to use at key conference sites that promoted her company through the distribution of cut blue flower bouquets that turned a drab conference area into a bright, beautiful space.
Pearl Abraham: Taking bold graphics based in surf design and pairing them with explosives. This website design promotes author's most recent book, American Taliban.
Bank of Millbrook: Vestibule sign design. Being in the Northeast, this Bank used an entry vesibule for both energy saving purposes during the summer and winter and for safety reasons. It featured a large window that looked directly into the Bank's vaults. By designing a huge frosted sign of their logo mark to go on this window, it created a beautiful visual and it added to the security of the building by obscuring a direct view into the bank vaults.
Dyson Foundation: Design for maximum giving. Creation of The Funders Network mark gives this special project its own identity within the foundation.
Hudson Valley Development Group: Seeds of knowledge-based logo design. Logo design for community-minded developer. The key visual element is the dandelion that represents spreading of ideas, seeds of knowledge, making wishes, letting your imagination take flight, hope, promise of new growth.
Palace Diner: EAT! Fresh Food. Billboard design promotes irresistable sliders for a diner that specializes in fresh homemade food 24/7.
